3 MCDL News & Notes New StoryWalk® Partnership In May, a new MCDL partnership debuted! A StoryWalk® was installed along the walkway behind Northrop Elementary that winds through wetlands into nearby Reagan Park. The beloved Chica Chica Boom Boom by Bill Martin livened up this peaceful walkway with its colors and rhymes! StoryWalk® is a partnership between MCDL and: • Medina County Park District, Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park, 4985 Windfall Rd., Medina • Medina City Schools, Northrop Elementary, 950 E. Reagan Pkwy., Medina It promotes literacy, physical activity, and spending time together as a family. Each season brings a new story. Watch for We Walk Through the Forest by Lisa Ferland on Sept. 1. Warm Up Medina County Final donation day is Sat. Nov. 5, all day. Bring finished items to Service Desks at any MCDL location. We accept items preferred by local charities: • Hats • Scarves • Mittens/gloves • Adult, child, baby, and lap blankets Register to Vote You may register to vote and submit an absentee ballot request form at MCDL. The deadline to register for the November General Election is Oct. 11. Absentee ballot requests begin 90 days before the elections and can be submitted until noon on Nov. 5 at the Board of Elections. Details at mcdl.info/Vote. Summer Reading Fun Summer Reading made a splash in 2022. The summertime beach and underwater theme created great fun and learning opportunities for nearly 6,300 children and 1,300 teens registered to play the game as of Aug. 1. This was a stand-out year with many children completing the game and choosing a prize book of their own. Favorite performers, including Outback Ray and The Bubble Lady, attracted crowds of 200-300 participants. Free ice cream at Lodi and Seville Library’s kick-off party made for many happy and messy faces. Teens read nearly 800,000 minutes, which is the equivalent of 1½ years of reading! Those who read 1,200 minutes or more qualified for numerous grand prize packages featuring art, gaming, and self-care. “It’s all about getting kids and families into the library so they can maintain or even improve their reading skills while having a great time at events and winning prizes along the way.” – Gail Ebey, Medina Library Children’s Dept.
